In a thrilling Europa League clash, Porto and Manchester United battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw on matchday 2 of 8.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United in the 7th minute. Rashford, finding space on the left, dribbled past João Mário and Stephen Eustáquio before firing a low shot into the bottom corner. Porto’s goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, managed to get a touch but couldn’t keep it out, giving Manchester United the early advantage.
United struck again at the 20-minute mark. Christian Eriksen initiated a quick counterattack, feeding Rashford, who set up Rasmus Højlund to make it 2-0. The goal mirrored the first, with Costa once again unable to prevent the strike.
Porto, however, refused to back down. Just eight minutes later, Samu Omorodion’s header forced a superb save from Onana, but Pepê was on hand to tap in the rebound, sparking celebrations at the Estádio do Dragão.
Six minutes later, Porto equalised. João Mário’s persistence in the box paid off, as he delivered a perfect cross for Samu to head past Onana, levelling the score at 2-2 before half-time.
The comeback was completed just five minutes into the second half. Porto capitalised on poor defending from Manchester United, with Nico González slipping the ball to Pepê, who crossed for Samu Omorodion to slot home his second goal, putting Porto 3-2 up.
At 81 minutes, Portuguese Bruno Fernandes, captain of Manchester United, was sent off due to an accumulation of yellow cards following a dangerous tackle. The home team already expected that the victory was secure, but they forgot they were playing against an English team.
However, deep into stoppage time, Manchester United salvaged a point. Christian Eriksen’s corner found Harry Maguire at the back post, who headed in to make it 3-3 in the 91st minute, leaving the home side devastated.
